Kids’ Choice Awards 2018: Stranger Things, Henry Danger among TV winners

The 2018 Kids’ Choice Awards aired on Nickelodeon tonight, and even if you’re not a kid we do still think that there are a couple of interesting things to point out here.

Take, for example, the immense popularity of Stranger Things at the show. Even though we don’t necessarily think of it as a kids’ show even if there are kids in it — there are ultimately a few different scares that are present by and large — it did manage to take home a couple of orange blimps on the night. Not only did the series manage to win Favorite TV Show, but actress Millie Bobbie Brown also ended up taking home the trophy for Favorite TV Actress. In doing so, she was able to defeat a number of popular kids’ favorites like Zendaya and Lizzy Greene.

As for some of the other awards, those did go to series that are directed more towards young viewers. In the category of Favorite TV Actor Jake Norman was declared the winner for his work on Henry Danger. Meanwhile, in the category of Favorite Cartoon we ended up seeing SpongeBob SquarePants take home the blimp yet again. Basically, Nickelodeon does still have something to celebrate in that some of their properties remain popular with viewers, though we do think the network has a problem when it comes to courting mainstream viewers. It’s been some time since Nick had the sort of show that could really transcend a wide array of different TV genres. They do need shows that appeal to both kids and adults and as much as we do love the nineties and some of what Nick was doing there, they probably do need to find a way to get both crowds via a new IP rather than just hoping to bring in more viewers from something that already exists.

Congrats to some of the winners! We’ll see if some of them repeat — for Stranger Things, it may be hard given that there is no guarantee that season 3 will even fall in the eligibility window.
