Chicago Fire cast pays tribute to DuShon Monique Brown
Below, you can see some tributes from show executive producer Derek Haas to go along with stars Taylor Kinney, Joe Minoso, Jesse Spencer, Yuri Sardarov, and Kara Killmer. Many of them are linking in their tweets to a GoFundMe page to help Brown’s family pay for funeral expenses and help with other expenses.
Brown was beloved by much of the One Chicago community and for good reason: She was a hard-working Chicago theater actor long before getting a chance to play Connie on the series and had a lot of respect and wisdom from being a part of that world. She also was a Chicago Public Schools counselor, meaning that she was even more connected to that community than many others were. Even if she didn’t always receive a ton of screen time on the series, you did get a chance to see her on a fairly regular basis over the years. Without her Firehouse 51 won’t quite be the same, and we certainly do hope that there is a way to honor her at some point near the end of the season.
For now, we continue to send some of our thoughts and condolences in the direction of Brown’s family and we applaud the entire One Chicago community for offering up support and care for her family during what has to be a very difficult time. The characters within Firehouse 51 have been long thought of as a family and that is being reflected among many of the actors who took part in the show. They have all worked together for so long now that they likely feel just as close to one another as they would be were they in an actual firehouse.
