Chicago Fire ratings edge out Station 19, narrowly, in first battle
So, who is it? It was close, but the title gives it away: Chicago Fire won the head-to-head showdown, which thankfully will be one of the few times over the remainder of the season in which the two shows are airing directly opposite each other. Most of the time the Grey’s Anatomy spin-off is going to be airing at 9:00 p.m. Eastern; meanwhile, Chicago Fire is going to be airing at 10:00.
For the first hour, both Chicago Fire and Station 19 each ended up averaging in total a 1.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic. Things only started to change within the second hour, which is when the latter show slipped down to a 1.1. Chicago Fire won both hours in terms of total viewers.
While these ratings prove that Station 19 is not going to be any sort of runaway hit, at the same exact time this was a reasonably nice start to the season for the show and made it very clear to us that there is room still for the series to grow. Without some of the same competition coming up, maybe it rises slightly — though we’ve said already that we really don’t think this show and Chicago Fire are competitors in the way in which you might think on the surface. That’s just the easy perception that you can get from looking at the type of programs that they are.

NCAA basketball aside, the #1 show of the night was Grey’s Anatomy with a 1.1.
