911 season 2: Will Connie Britton return? Actress’ future unclear
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Ryan Murphy confirmed that the former Nashville star took a somewhat-unusual approach in only joining the show for a single season upon its conception (most stars typically sign on for six):
“Connie only has a one-year deal, and she sort of did the first year as a favor to me, but I’m hoping she’ll come back, and I think she wants to because a hit is a hit is a hit … I think the world now for actors is you can be in a lot of shows and be working on a lot of things.”
911 has become in so many ways one of the biggest surprises of the season, especially since it at one point was not even meant to air this winter. It was Fox that pushed for a January launch as opposed to waiting until fall, and that proved to be the right choice for the series.
There are also a couple of other interesting tidbits from the Murphy interview — the plan at the moment is to expand the universe outward in season 2 and meet some new characters. Beyond that, there could even be spin-offs coming in the future! While we’re not sure that we need more spin-offs in a TV climate that already has One Chicago plus now Grey’s Anatomy and Station 19, we do understand some of why the thirst remains out there for more. If there is a spin-off, CarterMatt can’t envision it coming any earlier than 2019 — there’s not really any time for the fall.
For now, be prepared for an exciting, dramatic finale — we can only hope that it makes you excited to see a season 2 of 911 down the road.
