Outlander season 5 renewal talks still happening, wait continues
For show executive producer Ronald D. Moore, he has a different way of describing it: “Usual negotiations and conversations.” This is what he said (per Entertainment Weekly) prior to the start of the Emmy panel earlier. From there, he went on to say that they “are certainly going to do it. I have no doubt we are doing a season 5.” This is all just a matter of timing it out, and we assume that until then everyone will keep planning as though the season 5 is coming. Often this happens with shows anticipating a renewal; there’s no need to slow things down while work is finalized, not that there is an extreme amount of work being done on season 5 at present.
Moore also speculated that it is possible that the series could in the future change up the way in which they adapt some of Diana Gabaldon’s source material:
“Every year we approach it fresh … Should we keep it a book a season? We’ve done that up until now. But we’ve talked about splitting books, and we’ve talked about combining them. We want to be free in the writers’ room to pick and choose and do what feels most comfortable that year.”
Personally, we don’t foresee the show extending things to where one book is spanned out into two seasons, largely because there are ten books and that is going to be a lot of television. It’s more possible that two books could be condensed into a shorter period of time or that some events are mixed around … at least from our vantage point.

At the moment, our feeling is that news on an Outlander renewal will come about at some point this summer.
