Will Martin Freeman’s comments actually hurt Sherlock season 5 odds?
If you missed these comments, you can check them out over at the link here — and they are quite revealing in terms of Freeman airing out some of his various frustrations. The actor is frustrated by a number of different things at the moment, with the biggest one being all of the pressure that comes from a certain sector of the Sherlock fandom for this show. In his words, some of the fun isn’t there with the show anymore.
Now, do we think that some of these comments are actually going to change things when it comes to the series’ future? Surprisingly, we consider that doubtful. Think about things in this way: We weren’t going to be seeing a Sherlock season 5 for some time in the first place. We’re thinking that the earliest we’re going to see a new season is 2020, but more than likely it’s going to be 2021 or later. Both Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch have prominent roles elsewhere and to go along with it, Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss are working on other projects.
Ultimately, there are still plenty of other reasons for the cast and crew to come back to this series, with one of the biggest ones being the relationships that are here among the cast and crew. It is also a tremendous platform to promote other properties featuring the actors. We do think that another season of Sherlock will happen once some of the frustrations fade and schedules start to clear up. There really is not any reason to rush things beyond that, especially since that is the thing that could lead to the cast never wanting to do the series again. That is one of the reasons why we haven’t seen new episodes of the show every year. The model exists so that the team can go off and do some other things in between seasons.
