Will & Grace renewed for season 11 before season 9 even finishes

Clearly, NBC is making it clear that they want a lot of Will & Grace and also don’t want to wait for it. Over this weekend, the network ordered officially another season of the popular sitcom, which means that following its current season 9 it also has a season 10 and season 11 coming up. That’s a lot of faith to show in a single series but, at least to date, Will & Grace is earning it.

While the ratings have sputtered a bit this spring, overall the revival of the classic show is averaging a 1.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That’s a fantastic performance for an NBC comedy in this day and age, and to go along with that, it’s making some other comedies around it better. It’s a magnet for big-name guest stars who want to act in this canvas and it also has great international viability. Also, it is somewhat affordable given that you only have four members of your main cast that you have to pay top dollar to.

There’s also some good news when it comes to episode count, as season 10 next year has seen its order upped from the original 13 episodes to 18. Meanwhile, season 11 will also contain 18. This means that, in total, there are going to be at least 52 episodes of the revived series. We’d be shocked if there are any more ordered for a little while, mostly because the powers-that-be over at The CW need to figure out first and foremost just how the tenth and eleventh seasons are going to fare. It’s one thing for Will & Grace to perform like it is right now but there has to be some consistency over time.

What’s probably the most remarkable thing right now is looking at how the show was revived, which effectively started with a political ad, to where it is today. Some revivals have turned out to be creative and commercial disappoints. Yet, here it feels almost as though Will & Grace is better than ever.
