Madam Secretary season 4 episode 14 video: A damaging LGBTQ crisis

Sunday’s Madam Secretary season 4 episode 14 is going to be an integral episode for many different reasons, in particular when it comes to showing the different ways in which the world treats LGTBQ men and women. These are people who are deserving of the utmost respect. However, that doesn’t mean that they actually receive it. As a matter of fact, in the sneak peek below Kat presents Elizabeth with the news that a number of LGBTQ citizens of a foreign entity are being rounded up and persecuted.

As you would imagine, this ends up causing a very delicate situation as Elizabeth and Kat have to work to figure out what the United States can do in order to improve the situation. One thing that can be done here is try to escape the country as refugees, but there are issues there. For starters, processing applications and the like through Homeland Security takes time and these people often do not have time. Also, said foreign entity may not have much of an incentive to help people that it wants to persecute. Another issue is simply finding the people and saving them in time.

This episode will feature a very strong political component, but beyond that there is also going to be a very specific personal component to it. As reported already this episode will address Kat’s sexuality in the most substantial way that the show has to date. Why this is important is that it shows her sexuality is important to her; yet, she’s also not defined just by that. What CBS is doing with series such as this and the upcoming Instinct is finding way to organically include diversity and LGBTQ representation into their shows. They are making it seem as though it is just a natural part of some of these characters’ lives, and we’re excited to see what this episode holds for Kat. It could be one of Sara Ramirez’s biggest episodes since first joining the series.
