The Sinner season 2: Should Jessica Biel return in some capacity?
Biel’s character of Cora was not mentioned within any of the details that we’ve seen to date on the series, but the more that you read and start to understand what’s happening within the first season, the more this makes a certain degree of sense. It’s a challenge to try and find the right way in which to implement the Cora character given that the first season concluded with her being put away. While being institutionalized is obviously very different than getting sentenced to jail, it’s hard to see what sort of purpose she could have within the story. Given that season 2 is set within the same world as season 1, that makes it a little more challenging to find a way to incorporate Biel (who is still an executive producer) into the story.
With that being said, we do have two different ways in which the writers could choose to do this if they really wanted to.
1. Have her be a confidante for Ambrose – While she wouldn’t turn up in every episode, you could write in a couple of cameos for Cora as Ambrose paid her a visit and checked up on how she was doing, while also possibly sharing what he is working on next. The two do have an emotional connection that began back during the first season and that is something that the writers could look at more.
2. Cast her as a new character – You could make over Biel so that it doesn’t look like she is playing Cora again and still give her a role in the story. It absolutely wouldn’t be the first time in which someone was recast in the role of a different character set in the same universe. American Horror Story does this pretty effectively all the time.
