Big Little Lies season 2 filming reportedly kicks off!
There are a couple of different sources of confirmation for this incredible news. First, you have the actress behind Bonnie in Zoe Kravitz showing a new photo on Instagram of her character’s look, similar of course to what it was back in season 1. Meanwhile, on the other side of that there are also quotes from the show’s stars suggesting that filming was set to kick off at the end of this week. Production is expected to last months, and the challenge for writer David E. Kelley alongside stars Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman is rather clear: Trying to figure out a way in which to match the quality of the first season, which was an earth-shattering hit for HBO and also swept many major awards shows.
This season has a big challenge in that unlike season 1, there is no source material from Liane Moriarty to work from. We would look towards The Leftovers as an example, though, of how there can be more story left to tell after the fact. We’d argue that this show was actually better when it moved on past the source material. There are two different things that Big Little Lies is clearly doing at the moment to try and improve itself.
For starters, they are bringing back the vast majority of the major players from season 1 — even Alexnader Skarsgard, whose horrendous character of Perry was killed off at the end of the season, is slated to come back. Meanwhile, there are also some new additions, with Meryl Streep being the biggest name that comes to mind as Perry’s mother. We expect her to be a force of nature that does end up lifting this series to another level.
