How Outlander season 4 filming was impaced by recent snowstorm

Just in case you did not know, there was an enormous snowstorm in Scotland recently that caused all sorts of chaos and brought action on almost everything in the region to a standstill. While we like to think that most people out there are prepared for a couple of inches of snow, there’s a difference between inches and feet.

We speculated at the time of the snowstorm that there would be a clear impact on Outlander season 4 filming because of it, and that has now been confirmed courtesy of show executive producer Matthew B. Roberts. Speaking in a new interview per Digital Spy, he makes it clear just what sort of impact the snow ultimately had in briefly shutting down production:

“In over 500 days of shooting we had only cancelled once prior to this … but this snow was too heavy – we just couldn’t get the crew here. We could have filmed if we could have got to the studio but we couldn’t get anywhere near. The roads were impassable.”

This makes sense that these days were meant to be days of interior filming, given that there was no word about filming permits or actors being out on location at the time the snowstorm happened. It only slowed things down for a short period of time, though, and we imagine that this won’t have a huge impact on production as a whole. Filming should still conclude at roughly the same time and should also premiere on Starz later this year. Given that we are entering the spring now, we would imagine that filming as a whole is going to be a little easier with the weather being at least slightly more predictable.

Outlander filming concluded (at least for now) in Glasgow earlier this week in what was some of the most public filming we’ve seen for the series in some time. With that, many of the cast and production team are now in Los Angeles preparing for an Emmy panel Sunday afternoon. This is a subject that we’re going to have some more news about soon — for now, though, check out our new video discussing this and some other highlights from this past week!
