Madam Secretary season 4 episode 14 will explore Kat’s sexuality
According to Entertainment Weekly, this week’s episode will feature Kat opening up to Jay Whitman about “co-parenting her child and why she was personally affected by a recent incident involving LGBTQ refugees overseas.”
Kat will talk about her sexuality and the reasons why her style has developed over the years to reflect her gender identity and expression. In other words, she now dresses to reflect her who she truly is.
CBS has released a sneak peek into this week’s episode. The moment starts out like any other with Kat bring dinner for the two of them during a late night work session. Kat briefly mentions that she has a daughter and Jay asks if she is in the single parent club with him. Kat answers no and that she co-parents with the father of her child. We see Jay have a look both of confusion and shock at her statement. Kat notices this and clarifies that she is bisexual. Jay doesn’t seem to mind at all but has a question for her. What’s interesting about this is Kat shuts the door. This makes us believe that she loves who she is, but obviously wants to keep her personal life out of the office and only a select few into her life. This is completely understandable. Kat is a very driven and smart woman who wants to do her job and not have people potentially making her the center of their office gossip. Kat then goes on to talk about how she living how she wants to and how she wants to dress. She’s being herself now. This is a very powerful moment and we loved this sneak peek.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Sara Ramirez, who plays Kat, has stated her hopes for her political character.
“[I hope Kat will] continue normalizing, strengthening, and celebrating these types of inclusive outcomes in the world. As far as the character is concerned, I’m still getting to know her, but so far she’s different in that she spent a good portion of her life in politics before stepping away from it. Kat is very intentional and clear in her approach, because she knows she’s capable. She’s outspoken and unapologetically herself.”
Overall, this is a big episode because its one of the only shows to dedicate a significant amount of time to talk about LGBTQ issues that need to be addressed. We look forward to this episode.
