Outlander season 4 filming officially arrives in Glasgow

Outlander season 4 filming

Many of you may have heard well before today that Outlander season 4 filming was moving over to Glasgow. The Scottish city is the biggest population center to have the series to date, and production is going to continue there over the next couple of days. Expect a lot of hustle and bustle, especially with the combination of fans and production all congregating in the vicinity of St. Andrew’s Square.

Want to know who was present at filming earlier today? Be warned that there are minor spoilers ahead so look away if you are nervous…

The most high-profile sighting at Outlander filming today was none other than Sam Heughan, who was seen waving to the many fans congregated in the streets. What’s somewhat interesting about this sighting is that in the series, Heughan’s Jamie Fraser is currently in America. For the most part Outlander has been careful to use very few locations identifiable to Scotland for some of their scenes featuring Jamie, opting instead to move over to parks and other locations that don’t have many distinct landmarks. For them to film in a major Scottish city for Jamie’s scenes is interesting, but we’ve got faith in the Outlander production team and there absolutely is a plan. After all, they have used very public places before — take, for example, how Scotland and parts of Glasgow previously served as doubles for the Boston area and Harvard back during the third season. Even if they cannot capture the look entirely (that’s just difficult given the architecture and availability), they can capture the spirit of the look and create an experience that feels authentic as possible. The best example of that is using South Africa as a double for the Caribbean; at no point in watching that show did we think that they were filming in a different location than what was being set.

Heughan will have to work quickly the next couple of days to film some of these scenes, given that this weekend he will be heading over to Los Angeles for an Emmy discussion on the series with Caitriona Balfe and many production people behind the scenes. You can read more about that by heading over to the link here.

Outlander will premiere season 4 on Starz later this year.
