TV Madness 2018: Poldark, Z Nation square off in round 1 showdown
Welcome to another edition of our third annual TV Madness Tournament! This is a fun annual tradition here at CarterMatt where we have some fun, engaging battles between various shows looking to make it all the way to the final round on March 28.
Above, you can see our full bracket, complete with entries, their seeds, and start/end dates. Once you are within the bracket, the dates listed are when the previous poll ends and the next one begins! We’ve got a great group of shows taking part this year, with some newbies as well as others who have been a part of the tournament every single year. The voting rules are pretty simple — you can vote however often you would like on however many devices that you would like! If you are on mobile and you are having a problem seeing the poll at the bottom of the article for whatever reason, be sure to click to view the non-AMP version of the page at the bottom of the article.
In today’s edition the focus is on two shows in Poldark and Z Nation that actually did make it each past the first round of the tournament in 2017; yet, one of them is going to fall a little bit earlier this time. What is somewhat fun about this showdown is that we’re looking at two shows here that couldn’t be more different. One of a serious British period drama whereas the other is a zany, intense, and at-times gloriously gory zombie-fest. We’re definitely curious to see how things go over the course of this showdown.
Now that we’ve set the stage, let’s get to breaking down these entries further. Voting for this round remains open until Tuesday, March 10 at 1:00 p.m. Pacific time.
Poldark (#1 seed) – The BBC series starring Aidan Turner and Eleanor Tomlinson (which airs in America on PBS) fared well in the tournament last year, making it all the way to the final four before losing to Outlander. Now, it has an opportunity to follow up that performance with another strong outing. This is a passionate series that has a number of passionate fans to go along with it. They are attracted to the heart of many of the characters and also the beautiful period setting and breathtaking visage of Cornwall.
Z Nation (#8 seed) – The Syfy series, meanwhile, has an incredibly passionate cult following that embraces the show’s inner crazy. This is really a zombie series for zombie fans, one that celebrates the genre and isn’t afraid to take crazy creative risks for the sake of telling a story and having a great time. It’s also one of the most successful series currently on the network, with it getting set to debut the fifth season a little bit later this year.
