American Idol 16 premiere: Dennis Lorenzo’s audition closes out the show
Yet, this is a man who is a real comeback story! He found a job, met the love of his life, and has turned his life into something that is positive and inspiring … and that is even before hitting the stage in order to audition for the show. His performance was pretty incredible, especially given that he was performing with a broken guitar but still working to find a way to deliver something. This inspired Luke Bryant to comment on how many singers come into the show using a musical instrument of the highest quality that their parents probably bought for them; yet, they still are not able to deliver something of equal import to what Dennis brought to the show here. That just goes to show that passion is what really matters the most — that and working your butt off.
It’s a little too early to say that Dennis’ audition is going to find himself heading to the end of the season, largely because in past seasons we saw a number of examples of these early, emotional auditions not really leading to much other than an exit during Hollywood Week. These are important just as much for storytelling reasons as they are showing off talent. Not every American Idol winner has this sort of story and that is perfectly fine; it’s just important for a show like this to have a wide array of different stories to better show the wide array of different people who are out there in America.

The best thing that Dennis can do from here? Stay hungry, and make sure that he continues to fight and never give up.
