New Poldark video highlights series’ female characters

Demelza

If you are waiting eagerly for Poldark season 4, you’re going to have to wait for a little while longer. The series will not be premiering in Britain in the summer and then America later in the fall.

Nonetheless, the folks over at Mammoth Screen (the production company for the series) continue to be rather great when it comes to releasing some information about the show — including new, insightful featurettes. In the new one below, you can see everyone from writer Debbie Horsfield to cast members Heida Reed, Eleanor Tomlinson, and Ellise Chappell all open up about the power of the women in Poldark. These are women who despite many of the limitations of the times still nonetheless figure out a way in which to have their voice heard. They are inspirational to others close to them, they work hard, and they fight for whatever is right no matter the obstacle put before them.

Moving forward into season 4 we also absolutely know that there are many more obstacles that all of them are going to have to take on. For example, it’s already pretty darn clear that we are going to be seeing Morwenna continue to struggle in the midst of what is going on with Whitworth. Yet, she is going to continue to do whatever she can in order to avoid submission. She’s already been able to find one way to avoid physical contact from him; now, we just have to hope that she can find a way to avoid marriage.

Meanwhile, Elizabeth is entering season 4 with power more in her marriage with George than she has ever had before, as she now fully realizes that she has a voice and will not be manipulated any longer by him. Their relationship can no longer be defined by Ross and the rivalry that exists there; they have to move forward on their own terms and if George cannot achieve that, the remainder of their relationship may be over before it even really gets going. Finally, be prepared to also see Demelza do everything that she can to care for Ross’ home and their entire family while he is away in the city taking on more of a role in politics. Without her, there is no way that Ross would be able to do what he is in this coming season. Hopefully, he is going to figure out a way in which to express gratitude.
