TV Madness 2018: Lucifer and Longmire do battle in round 1 showdown
Welcome to another edition of our third annual TV Madness Tournament! This is a fun annual tradition here at CarterMatt where we have some fun, engaging battles between various shows looking to make it all the way to the final round on March 28.
Above, you can see our full bracket, complete with entries, their seeds, and start/end dates. Once you are within the bracket, the dates listed are when the previous poll ends and the next one begins! We’ve got a great group of shows taking part this year, with some newbies as well as others who have been a part of the tournament every single year. The voting rules are pretty simple — you can vote however often you would like on however many devices that you would like! If you are on mobile and you are having a problem seeing the poll at the bottom of the article for whatever reason, be sure to click to view the non-AMP version of the page at the bottom of the article.
In today’s edition the focus is on two shows that are in many ways very different; yet, they do also have one major thing in common: Taking down the bad guys. Lucifer does that while incorporating the title character and many of his demonic ways. Meanwhile, Longmire takes more of a rustic approach, even if its own title character isn’t afraid to bend the rules a little bit here and there for the sake of justice. One of these shows is still on the air; meanwhile, the other recently ended and is in its final year of eligibility for the tournament.
Now, let’s get to breaking down these entries further. Voting for this round remains open until Sunday, March 18 at 1:00 p.m. Pacific time.
Lucifer (#4 seed) – Surprisingly, this is the first year that the Tom Ellis-led Fox series is in the tournament — we say that mostly through fault of our own in not including it before now! This is a show that despite whatever preconceived notions you may have about its name, is delightfully fun and chock full of heart. Pound for pound it is one of the most enjoyable series on television — it has a number of characters you want to root for and also puts many of them into unusual, comedic positions regularly as a means of mixing things up a little bit.
Longmire (#5 seed) – Unless it ends up having another season somewhere else, the Netflix drama is taking its final tour in the tournament this year after some success in prior years. The reason behind much of its success for six seasons is very much based on a few different things: Heart, passion, aesthetic, and offering a portrayal of a certain way of life that you really do not get a chance to see almost anywhere else. Longmire was a thing of beauty for many years and we are certainly sad that it’s at an end.
