This Is Us season 2 finale promo: A big wedding day surprise!

NBC certainly looks as though it’s delivering a gift during the This Is Us season 2 finale, and it is coming in the form of something we weren’t sure we would ever quite see.

To be specific, we’re talking here about Older Jack! You can get a glimpse of Milo Ventimiglia in the old-age makeup in the promo below, and that’s enough to get you a little bit teary-eyed; with that said, we don’t think that NBC is throwing Jack Pearson into a Lazarus Pit or something. The man is dead, and we certainly don’t think that this is changing.

Instead, we envision this as some sort of sliding-doors moment in which Rebecca is envisioning what it would be like to have Jack present for this day, something that she probably always assumed that she would be around for. It has to be fairly-devastating to think about how much she wanted this and how she can’t have it; yet, she knows Jack would be proud. He would love her for the way that she kept fighting and he would love it that his daughter was finally getting a chance to marry someone she cares about deeply. This ceremony should be a moment for the ages for these characters and it’s something that they can all look back on as a rare, once-in-a-lifetime occasion.

Seeing Older Jack is probably not going to be the only surprise for this finale, either, given that this is an installment that could very well inject some other sort of flash-forward so that we can see where some of these characters are another couple of decades down the road. We’ve already gotten a glimpse of Older Randall and we know that he makes it to the point where his children are grown adults; as for everyone else, that much is still not altogether clear. Hopefully the Big Three all makes it there but it wouldn’t be the first time that producers figured out a way to collectively rip out our hearts.
