On Thursday The Librarians was officially canceled over at TNT, and while that is sad we don’t want to spend too much time just dwelling on that and being steeped in sadness. We’re going to try and be solutions-oriented which is precisely what this article is all about: Coming up with some possible new homes for the show and ways in which to save it!
If you look below, you can take a look at five networks / streaming providers that feel like they would be a really great home for the series, and also ones that could be reasonably attainable when you think about everything from rights issues to also the current ratings.
Hulu – Of the streaming providers, this one makes the most sense given that they already have the first three seasons of the show online for streaming. They already know The Librarians and it makes more sense to concentrate here than on some other providers.
Syfy – Of the networks that are out there on cable, this just seems to be the most organic fit. The Librarians actually performed better last season than several shows currently airing on Syfy, so even if it brings over just 75% of ts audience it would be considered a hit there. Tonally, it also would work really well.
USA – While it is probably better suited for the blue-sky “Characters Welcome” era of USA more so than what the network is doing now, we’re still not ruling it out as some sort of possible contender.
AMC – Tonally it’s a little bit out of what the network often does, but it could be a smart acquisition for them as a means of trying to pick up a new audience that they don’t have for some of their other shows. That, in turn, could lead to more viewers elsewhere.
The CW – The series frankly doesn’t have the ratings to air on some of the other major networks out there, but it makes perfect sense here. This would actually work really well as either a fun summer show for them, or one that could help to kick off their brand-new lineup on Sunday nights. (Remember, The CW is getting set to program that night for the first time ever.)
