Grey’s Anatomy season 14 episode 14 review: Game night goes as expected

Grey's Anatomy season 14 episode 14

At the center of Grey’s Anatomy season 14 episode 14 was game night … and it was just about what you would expect. More or less, this was a dumpster fire with some crazy conflict, some breakups, some new pairings, and some excitement.

Perhaps the biggest surprise of the night was simply this: Jackson and Maggie kissing after many weeks’ worth of buildup. After it was revealed that Clive, Maggie’s new love interest, was secretly married, Jackson started to develop some concern over her future. As a result of that, he broke up with his new girlfriend Priya and came back to her home to kiss her. Their romantic moment was interrupted, however, the moment that Meredith came home with an admission of her own — her mother’s old friend, Marie Cerone, may have betrayed her — she may have taken some of the information that she had gotten from her and used that for the sake of her own research. Meredith’s entire project is now in danger, and you better hope that Meredith and Jo act quickly in their attempts to fix it.

Meanwhile, there was another surprising pairing in the episode in the return of Owen and Amelia. There is no guarantee at the moment that we’re going to see these two become a couple again, but they had some fun moments tonight! Basically, it’s a reminder of why we loved Omelia in the first place / why we’re still rooting for the two parties to get back together.

Speaking of possible hookups, is Tom actually going to hook up with April after game night? She was a complete hot mess over the course of that night but, to the surprise of really no one, Tom seemed to be super-into it. We’re not going to be shocked if the two did sleep together after the evening. There was romance even in the hospital, as Sam admitted to DeLuca that she loved him while he found himself in the unusual position of being a patient at the hospital. There were so many patients that there was a lot of scrambling that had to happen; also, Alex found himself desperate to fight for his patient, who wanted to use medical marijuana in order to get herself into a place where she did not need a feeding tube.

CarterMatt Verdict

We will be completely honest here — while “Games People Play” was a very good episode of the show, it was hard to concentrate on it in the midst of the news about Jessica Capshaw and Sarah Drew leaving Grey’s Anatomy at the end of the season. (Be sure to subscribe to our official YouTube channel.) This episode was a reminder of what we liked about the show, but also how much about Arizona and April we’re going to miss (even if Arizona didn’t have the largest role in the world this week.)
