Big Brother Canada 6: Who was voted in?
Let’s kick things off here with what is the biggest surprise of the entire night: Kirsten MacInnis inexplicably not getting the votes to go into the game over Veronica. How in the world did this happen? She had a lot going for her entering the game, including the support of the show’s diehard fan / podcast community. She was a Big Brother superfan competing against someone in Veronica who, per her own admission, has never really seen the show before at all.
There are a few different reasons as to how the result played out like this.
1. The show’s own edit – Basically, Big Brother Canada last night sold Kirsten as a “devil” and Veronica as an “angel.” While we’re here for the great TV and for the conflict, there are a lot of casual viewers of the show who probably just want to root for someone presented as “good.” It may sound really stupid, but we do think that’s true. We live in a society that is super-negative right now so there are probably people who just voted for happy people.
2. Casting diversity – There are already a lot of super-fans on the season; with that, it’s possible that there may have been some viewers out there who were looking for something a little bit different.
3. Anti-superfan bias – We actually do think that this is a thing. We’re sure that there are some people out there who thought that Kirsten had an unfair advantage because she was already popular in the fan community. There could have actually been some voters voting simply against her rather than for Veronica.

Seeing Merron be voted in over Mikey is no surprise — he had the angel edit on his side, and to go along with that was the beneficiary of also some prominent celebrity support. (Merron had some friends in high places, including a popular singer — the support that he got from that negates almost anything else.)
