Suits spin-off starring Gina Torres officially ordered to series

Suits season 7 spoilers

It is now 100% official — you will have a chance to see the Suits spin-off featuring Gina Torres in the future.

Today, Deadline confirmed that the spin-off is ordered to series. There is no official premiere date yet for the series, but hopefully we’ll get an opportunity to either see it later this year or at some point in early 2019. The idea of the show is that it will put the focus on the tricky, difficult world to navigate that is Chicago politics.

In a statement, Chris McCumber, the President of Entertainment Networks at NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment, had the following to say:

“Gina’s portrayal of Jessica Pearson as one of television’s strongest, most successful businesswomen has made a huge impact with fans … We can’t wait to explore this next chapter in the Suits legacy – and a brand-new world for Jessica.”

Meanwhile, Suits creator Aaron Korsh (who also wrote the spin-off pilot) had the following message to pass along:

“It was an extraordinary pleasure working with Gina on Suits for six years … Beyond her undeniable talent, she is an incredible partner and collaborator, and I always hoped we would work together again. I am sincerely grateful to USA and UCP for giving Dan Arkin, my producing partners at Hypnotic and me the opportunity to continue Jessica Pearson’s journey in this new series that will encapsulate all that our fans love about her and Suits – but with its own distinct story that will be unique to the franchise.”

You will get a chance to see some of what this spin-off series will look like later this spring when the Suits season 7 finale airs — in between introducing this new show and also saying goodbye to Patrick J. Adams (Mike Ross) and Meghan Markle (Rachel Zane), there is a lot that this series is going to need to accomplish within a relatively short period of time.
