Where is Emily Prentiss on Criminal Minds season 13? Paget Brewster’s status

Emily Prentiss

Where is Emily Prentiss on tonight’s Criminal Minds season 13 episode? That’s a fair question to wonder — especially if you came into Wednesday night’s new episode a few minutes late.

Basically, for answers on this you just have to look back to some of what happened at the end of the last episode of February, where Linda Barnes effectively relieved the character of her duties. For now, JJ is the Unit Chief, but there is no guarantee that is going to stay that way forever. As a matter of fact, we saw Spencer Reid protest Barnes when she called Prentiss’ leadership “poor” — something we certainly understand. Don’t talk about Emily that way!

Without having Emily on the case, it was pretty clear that the BAU was functioning differently than it was before. With that being said though, that doesn’t exactly mean that it was functioning better. In fact we need Emily back as soon as possible.

Here’s the good news for people worried about Paget Brewster’s future

It turns out that Prentiss was actually a part of the episode even without her being apart of the BAU! Prentiss made an appearance about fifteen minutes into the episode and with that, it started to seem as though she was preparing to leave.

If you are wondering if Paget Brewster will be done with the series soon beyond this episode, don’t count on it. Brewster has yet to say that she is done with the series and with that, you have to think that she is going to be back in due time. Prentiss is stellar at her job and after losing her on the series once already, it’s hard to think that she would exit again without the fans rioting. In general, it’s just become standard operating procedure for some characters on Criminal Minds to pop in here and there. For example, there have been some episodes without Matthew Gray Gubler around.

More bad news

At the end of the episode Prentiss was reinstated (yay!), but she was also reassigned (boo). Most of the main characters were shifted around / asked to resign. It was a pretty devastating ending (we’ve been calling it the BAU Red Wedding here at CarterMatt), but don’t anticipate any major shifts in the cast. Everything we said in the prior paragraph still stands, and you can get more insight in the video below. (Subscribe for more!)
