Black Mirror renewed for season 5 by Netflix
While the streaming service has officially now confirmed the news, there are still many questions out there that need to be answered. For example, there is no confirmation as of right now in regards to the latest episode count or when the new episodes are going to premiere. We suppose that those answers will come in due time and there isn’t too much of a reason to hurry them along.
What really matters more than anything else at the moment is simply the validation that there is more of the series coming up. There is also zero element of surprise when it comes to this renewal for a wide array of different reasons, starting with the simple fact that it’s as relevant and as fascinating as it has ever been. While there may be many other anthology series out there at the moment that bring powerful messages to the table, Black Mirror is one in a million just in terms of how they are conveyed. It’s a serious show and even a terrifying one at times, but it delivers time and time again. In particular, we know the “USS Callister” episode was so impactful that there are people out there still calling for a spin-off to be made.
When could Black Mirror return?
At the earliest, we would say that December is a good target date for the series’ return. That is, after all, when it came back for season 4! If that is for whatever reason to soon, then maybe you kick off the latest batch of episodes in 2019. This is not a series you particularly want to rush, given that the entire success of it is based almost entirely on some of the ideas brought to the table.
Charlie Brooker remains showrunner on Black Mirror; hopefully, he will find many a great actor and director to take part in the upcoming batch of episodes.
