Law & Order: SVU season 19 episode 15 is airing on Wednesday night, and from the jump the sneak peek is going to remind you of one thing: Hudson University really is the most horrible place ever. It feels like almost everything terrible that happens to college students happens at this particular school on the show.

Yet, the case that you are going to see on Wednesday night’s new episode of the series is far from your typical case on the show. At the center of this one is a young woman who was involved in a sexual assault three months prior. She never went to the police, there was no rape kit, and the entire investigation was handled internally. What happened to the man at the center of the horrendous act? He was suspended from the university for a year, which is almost certainly not enough punishment for what he did. It’s pretty clear that the police need to be involved, and Carisi has an added reason to be involved: The victim is his 18-year old niece.

In the sneak peek via SpoilerTV, you can see Sonny lay out his personal investment in this case before Benson and Stone, who tries to take whatever next steps he can while they try to get more evidence to charge. Benson also has to tell Carisi that officially, he’s off the case just because his presence in itself would be a conflict of interest. Unofficially, however, she absolutely does want him on board. He just can’t do anything to hurt their case because of his personal investment.

Is there a reason to be frustrated with Stone for not sticking around and doing more to help? For now, absolutely — yet, this is just another reminder of how by-the-book he is trying to be. Maybe as time goes on, he’ll become a bit more malleable to bending the rules.

Ultimately, this episode should offer up a great opportunity to learn a little bit more about Carisi’s family, and then also see how far he’s willing to go for justice — even to the extent of risking his own career.

Do you think that Carisi is still going to be able to investigate this case even while being officially taken off of it? Share right now in the comments!
