When should Outlander season 4 key art / poster be released?

Outlander season 4 key art

The Outlander season 4 key art may be more important than almost any other promotional material that is out there for the upcoming batch of episodes. This will be what is used on the official poster, and then almost everything else from DVD covers to soundtracks to social-media backgrounds to dozens of other things that we cannot even begin to mention here. This is basically the foundation in which everything else related to your show comes from. The image above was the season 3 key art and it’s nothing short of beautiful. It establishes both the central idea of the show and also painted the picture as to where both Jamie and Claire Fraser were, physically and emotionally, in the time in which they were apart.

Now, this brings us of course to our next question: When should this key art be officially released? The bar has been set high, but the marketing folks over at Starz and Sony do have a little bit of time to figure that out still. The key art for season 3 was officially unveiled on July 11, which was the same day in which the premiere date was officially confirmed. It’s very well possible that the same thing could happen with season 4 — we presume that they could, if they really wanted to, choose to wait on revealing the key art until after the premiere-date announcement, but it’s hard to do it the other way around. The primary reason in which to reveal the key art is to share the premiere date. (One of the minor criticisms that we have of the season 3 art is that the date tends to blend in a little bit with the background and it’s probably the last thing that your eye is drawn towards.)

As for what this season 4 art could look like, we do feel like the focus will remain on Jamie/Claire and probably no one else. While it would be lovely to get someone like Brianna in there at some point, she’s not directly connected to where Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan’s characters are at the moment. We would have it focused on the two of them alongside symbols of 18th-century America — nothing over the top, but identifiable enough so that it is apparent right away where they are. Think in terms of the season 2 art (below), which made it clear via the costumes and props that this was a very different locale than much of season 1.

There is certainly no hurry on the key art being presented — it’s better if they take the time to make it both beautiful and a perfect reflection of the story presented.
