What happened to Victoria on Once Upon a Time?

Is Gabrielle Anwar leaving Once Upon a Time season 7, just one half of a season after she originally signed on? It’s crazy to think, but at the moment it absolutely does seem that way.

Over the course of the first episode of the new year we lost Victoria a.k.a. Lady Tremaine, and with that the show resets somewhat so that there are some new adversaries and issues for the series to take on. That’s exciting, though it’s fairly surprising that we are going to lose an actor of Anwar’s caliber so early into the final season. Nonetheless, don’t things have to move fairly quickly at the moment? It definitely feels that way.

Of course, doesn’t it make absolutely the most sense for this show to have Victoria leave the series right when she is starting to get along with Drizella? One of the things that we’ve come to see with this show over time is that mothers will do a lot for the sake of saving their daughters … and it really doesn’t matter how terrible they may seem at times.

Maybe this was a redemptive death for the character; one way or another, it was certainly memorable. It was a chance to see something a little bit different and it’s going to accelerate the remainder of the story in some interesting directions. For the time being, though, it’s certainly a shocking loss.

The biggest thing that we want to see from Once Upon a Time moving forward now is a chance to see some of the characters find some happiness that haven’t yet. This is a series about optimism and hope, and while there have been a number of bumps in the road
