Celebrity Big Brother finale review: Did Ross Mathews or Marissa Jaret Winokur win?

Celebrity Big Brother finale

Who won the Celebrity Big Brother finale? There was some drama that unfolded over the course of the night but, overall, things moved in a fairly predictable direction.

Let’s cycle through some of the first evictions.

5th Place – Omarosa. She was on the block when the live feeds went down, and it was pretty obvious that she was going to be booted.

4th and 3rd place – Mark McGrath and Ariadna Gutierrez. The final Head of Household was really a random crapshoot based on some questions about the game. Marissa Jaret Winokur was the final Head of Household, and she evicted both Mark and Ariadna. We don’t love the way that this went down since so much of the endgame was determined by luck — with that being said, we also aren’t shocked that this is the final two.

The final two was a love-fest — probably too much of a love-fest since there wasn’t really any throwing anyone under the bus. Ross’ performance in the final two was far and away better than what we saw from Marissa. She rambled frequently and he was clear and articulate. He easily played the best game and that’s why Marissa made a pretty big mistake in keeping him … or so we thought. (Hey, expect the unexpected.)

The best part of the entire live show is probably the most infuriating — Metta voting at random for who he wanted to see win. It seems as though there are a lot of people voting based on honor / integrity / blah blah blah stuff that doesn’t matter all that much. Ross played the better game!

Yet, Marissa has won Celebrity Big Brother … or Celebrity Big Bitter? Even Metta’s random vote for Ross didn’t really help him all that much. Marissa’s a nice person and she played a decent game, but she really wasn’t the driving force behind the season. Yet, these are celebrities and for the most part not super-fans — they need their egos massaged a little more.

Does the finale take away from a good season?

Not too much, mostly because Big Brother finales are often disappointing and devoid of some of the drama you would want. This was still a good season given that it shook up the formula enough, had some interesting casting, and we liked getting some celebrity stories from the live feeds.

We actually just wish that more of the finale contained the jury on stage watching back clips and goofing off. The best part of the episode was also the part with the least amount of production.
