Madam Secretary season 4 episode 14: Jay and Kat find themselves in hot water
With a little more than 2 weeks until CBS’s Madam Secretary returns, CBS has released the episode synopsis for March 18th (the 14th episode of season 4) and it’s going to be a great one. Based on the synopsis, it appears as though Jay and Kat will be in the spotlight this time around:
“Refuge” – Jay and Kat devise a way to help persecuted foreign LGBTQ citizens escape their country while their U.S. homeland security applications are processed. However, when the country closes its borders, Jay and Kat are forced to change that plan quickly, as it could now threaten their relationship with neighboring allies, on MADAM SECRETARY, Sunday, March 18 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
What caught out attention about this episode is that the synopsis only mentions Jay and Kat, and to be honest this makes us more interested. We know that Elizabeth is the central character and always be, but it’s nice that we are going to get a change. Elizabeth will still be present in the episode, but by focusing the attention on two other characters it allows us to get know characters that we didn’t know as well before. We know who Jay is and we know some of his story, but we don’t know much else. Same goes for Kat, only we know even less. This episode is the perfect opportunity to change that. We seen many times before that writers will take opportunities during high intense situations to drop a bread crumb about the character. For instance, if the situation reminds them of an event, person, or experience from their past, the character will take some time to tell another character and the audience about it.
In addition, the international problem of the week also catches our attention. The writers are once again pulling from real-life experiences in order for the fans to better relate to the show. This time Jay and Kat are trying to do their jobs, but hit a road block when neighboring countries see this as a problem. This is where we see Elizabeth stepping in to do her normal job of saving the day. The other question that remains is will the country in question catch on to Jay and Kat’s plan? Is that why they closed the borders? It’s possible and we are definitely looking forward to.
We also look forward to seeing what capacity Elizabeth will serve in this episode. The synopsis only mentions Jay and Kat, but, again, that doesn’t mean Elizabeth will on the back burner. So seeing where she will fall out in all this is interesting.
