When could The Tick season 2 premiere on Amazon?
The good news is that the Ben Edlund-produced series already does have a second season; beyond that, it was announced that The Tick season 2 premiere date is going to be at some point in 2019. Obviously it would be nice to have some more specifics beyond that, but we’re talking about a show premiering more than ten months down the road! We’re not altogether shocked that there is only so much information that Amazon can give.
The season 2 renewal was first announced last month, with Amazon Studios’ head of scripted series Sharon Yguado having the following to say:
“Ben has created a resounding hit while Peter and Griffin have brought Tick and Arthur to indelible life … We can’t wait to bring fans more of the Tick universe soon.”
Meanwhile, Edlund noted that “we got a good ball of mud spinning with the right tilt of axis. I’m very happy we have this opportunity to keep peopling it.”
How long can a series like The Tick last?
While we’re not altogether sure that this is the sort of series that you can really keep on the air for ten or fifteen years, it’s not hard to envision it running for several more seasons beyond where it is right now. It’s bringing Amazon something that they have already indicated they desperately need: An international hit. It’s a familiar franchise that brings a lot of different genres to the table in a neat little package. There aren’t all too many other shows out there doing what it is and viewers are responding to that. The closing thing to The Tick out there is probably Deadpool, and even that is markedly different.
As of right now, the easy inclination is to say that The Tick can last however long the people working on it would like for it to last. Maybe that will change down the road.
What do you want to see on The Tick season 2, and how long can you envision a series like this lasting down the road? Be sure to share some more of your thoughts on that subject now in the comments!
