Pilot season: Katie Holmes, Sabrina Carpenter, Scandal’s Joe Morton land new gigs
While there’s no guarantee that any of these shows mentioned will be airing this fall, or will actually feature some of the performers currently cast, it’s hard to deny that there are some exciting entries in the mix this time around.
Katie Holmes – The former Dawson’s Creek star is, at the moment, poised to make her big return to the medium in an untitled drama project from Fox that she will star in as well as executive produce. She would play Special Agent Hazel Otis, an FBI agent who finds herself in a complicated spot when her affair with a high-powered general is made public. Following that, she has to figure out the right way to rebuild. The pilot is being written by Ilene Chaiken (Empire) alongside Melissa Scrivner Love (Person of Interest).
Sabrina Carpenter – The singer and Girl Meets World alum is heading over to NBC for the new comedy series So Close. According to Deadline, she will play the roommate of a “hopeless romantic” named Kyle who may be close to settling in with the wrong person. Who is the right person? Funny thing — their name is Riley. We doubt that it’s Riley Matthews, but that’s still a funny Easter egg.
Joe Morton – Fresh off of playing Rowan on Scandal the past few years, Joe is set (per Deadline) to appear in the CBS dramedy God Friended Me as the Reverend Arthur Finer, the father of the main character played by The Mayor actor Brandon Michael Hall. (We’re still salty over that show being canceled.) After playing a character so dark, it may be nice for Morton to laugh a little!
