Duffer Brothers not leaving Stranger Things after season 3

Duffer Brothers

Are the Duffer Brothers really leaving Stranger Things? While there may be temptations that are out there, that doesn’t mean that the famous showrunning duo is giving into them.

Today, Netflix confirmed that the two creative forces behind their mega-hit series are staying put beyond the end of the upcoming third season — effectively squashing most of this talk for the time being.

When you think about it, there’s really not all that great of a reason for the Duffer Brothers to leave Stranger Things, largely because of the fact that they are probably not going to do all that much of the show beyond the third season in the first place. It makes the most sense for them to finish this series out potentially with a season 4 and then move forward to some other things. At around that point anyway, some of the younger cast members are going to start aging their way our of the series and that is something that really has to be considered here in the first place.

Without the Duffer Brothers, it’s pretty darn clear that Stranger Things would not be anywhere near the same show. This is a series that relies heavily on their inspiration and creative vision; changing showrunners for almost any show is tough, but changing showrunners for one like this with so much of a singular focus would be almost impossible. There may be some other people who could do it in theory, but why would you want one of them when you could just get the real thing?

The moment that Stranger Things is over, we’re sure that the Duffer Brothers will then be courtesy for some of the biggest properties in Hollywood at the moment. That seems pretty easy to imagine. We’ve already seen that happen with another pair in David Benioff and D.B. Weiss of Game of Thrones fame, who have now been hired in order to pen some future installments within the Star Wars universe. More and more feature film companies in particular are looking towards television for talent.
