Outlander season 4 filming continues — this time in Culross

Outlander - Culross

Outlander season 4 filming is still going strong, and this time around it is in another Scottish village in Culross.

So where is Culross? It’s located northwest of Edinburgh and has the perfect combination of history and also distinctive visual flair. It was also the perfect setting for some period scenes involving Steven Cree and some other notable names. (This is one of those occasions where for non-book readers we don’t want to give all that much away.) Let’s just say for now that if you love the series’ central premise, there are some scenes being filmed in Culross today that you are absolutely going to appreciate.

Is Outlander season 4 filming more in public than season 3? That’s an interesting question, and we do think to some extent it’s true. There are so many outdoor sequences this year and we think that the filming public is aided all the more by there being so many opportunities to actually see production in action. It’s obviously a chance for them to see cast members and feel like they are a part of television magic. Are there downsides? Sure, given that there are so many things that can happen filming in public instead of private; overall, though, we do think it’s a good thing. Most people who want to avoid spoilers can.

Obviously, another reason why Outlander season 4 filming is going to likely remain more public is because, for the most part, the cast seems to be remaining in Scotland the bulk of the season. This time around there is no jaunt down to South Africa for months on end to film all of the scenes at sea.

Rest assured, there are going to be some more opportunities to see filming continue in the weeks ahead — of course, the series doesn’t often disclose locations in advance. We’re going to give you some more updates as things go along, but part of the fun with season 4 is seeing precisely how the production team is going to alternate between filming Scotland as Scotland and then moving things over to filming Scotland as America. You’re really going to get these two separate worlds throughout the upcoming episodes.
