Should Blue Bloods season 8 stage New Kids on the Block reunion with Donnie Wahlberg?

Blue Bloods season 8

There are many things that we want to see when it comes to Blue Bloods season 8, but here is one that absolutely qualifies as something we’re rather shocked we haven’t seen on the show to date: Some sort of epic New Kids on the Block episode featuring many of the band members in different roles.

Now, we do know that this would not be the first time that someone other than Donnie Wahlberg from the classic band has appeared in an episode; in the past, we had a chance to see Jordan Knight in a small appearance back in season 1. There’s something a little bit different about it now in that it’d be a little bit more unexpected, and it would be a nice little homage to Donnie and some of his longtime fans.

Is anything keeping this appearance from happening? We’re sure that scheduling is a part of it, but to go along with that you also have time. There’s also finding the right story for it; Blue Bloods is not exactly a show that employs stunt casting. They do feature some big-name guest stars including Whoopi Goldberg, but there is often a reason for it beyond just the obvious.

As for the biggest reason to do it, it’s fun! It doesn’t necessarily have to be anything super-serious but at the same time, we don’t need that. It’s rather nice sometimes to just do something a little bit different. (Unfortunately, it may be a little bit late to plan something out for season 8 — a season 9 renewal does seem likely, and with that we may have to hope for that then.)

On a slightly different note, what would it also take to get Mark Wahlberg on Blue Bloods? This feels like a great get for a finale or some other milestone episode. Mark technically does have a history with New Kids on the Block as well, and there is of course the whole family history with Donnie to go along with it.
