Outlander perspectives: Lallybroch is your favorite season 3 location
After a week of voting within the final edition of our Outlander perspectives series, Lallybroch took home the title of top season 3 location with a grand total of 41% of the vote. This was enough to easily topple second-place recipient Helwater (the setting of the episode “Of Lost Things”) and also Culloden and its garish spectacle from the start of the season.
What helped Lallybroch take home the title this year? We’ve got a guess of a few different things?
1. Reminders of seasons past – CarterMatt readers love the first two seasons and with that, it made sense that a location seen in them would get some love again this time around. The place is quintessential Scotland and serves as a wonderful reminder of Jamie Fraser’s roots.
2. The visual marvel of it – It’s such a lush, beautiful place to film at. There are times when the set design team has to do a lot of work to illuminate a location — while we know they put in work here, the scenery also speaks for itself.
3. It was at the center of multiple episodes – While “Surrender” (episode 2) was a strong outing, “First Wife” (episode 8) is probably our favorite episode of the entire season. You were reminded of it of a couple of different occasions, and both were the setting of a couple of major events. First, you had Jamie being taken away and imprisoned. Later on, you had the beginnings of the voyage that eventually took Jamie and Claire to Jamaica before eventually coming to America.
While it does seem fair to rule out Lallybroch as a location for Jamie and Claire in the immediate future, it doesn’t exactly seem like this is something that you should necessarily rule out forever for either them or anyone else. The Diana Gabaldon books are still being written, after all!
