Law & Order: SVU season 19: Should any former Chicago Justice stars join Philip Winchester?

Philip Winchester is now officially a part of the Law & Order: SVU season 19 cast after previously being a part of Chicago Justice, and with that begs the all-important question: Will any of his former friends and colleagues be paying him a visit?

As for whether or not we’d like to see it, there is a certain degree of fun that could happen with getting Joelle Carter to stop by for an episode or two — maybe Laura Nagel is in town or she lands a job with the District Attorney’s office to help investigate crimes? Or, is it possible at all that his one-time protégé Anna Valdez stops by in some capacity? The relationship between Winchester and Monica Barbaro’s characters was one of the best parts of Chicago Justice so it would be nice to see a reunion there.

For those who miss Chicago Justice it would be nice to get a reunion of sorts, even if it was for just a couple of minutes during an upcoming episode. Yet, it does seem fairly unlikely to happen for a few different reasons — starting with the fact that this is a totally different show in a different city with a different focus. Winchester himself is probably only going to get so much time per episode and may not even appear in all of them — Raul Esparza wasn’t a fixture in every episode, either. There’s just not going to be a lot of time for Chicago Justice cameos and even if there was, it’s a risky move to alienate some SVU fans who didn’t watch that show. It’s an Easter egg for a select few and that’s probably not the priority.

To go along with that, there’s also of course the issue of logic. It’s a little hard to sell a bunch of cameos from people who just all randomly happen to be in New York City. Logistically it could also be hard to make some of the cameos happen — Barbaro is working, for example, on an upcoming series for Netflix. (She was able to do some guest spots for Chicago PD before filming started on her new show.) Meanwhile, Jon Seda is now back to being a regular on Chicago PD so there’s not very much room for him to fly out to New York City.

Ultimately, we don’t see many cameos happening, but do you want to see it? Share in the comments below!
