Call the Midwife season 7 episode 5: Charlotte Ritchie returns — will Helen George?
Just in case you’ve forgotten, the character went along with Tom (Jack Ashton) up to Birmingham earlier this season as he needed to fulfill some duties up there. Judging from the fact that you’ll be seeing Bara again on Sunday night’s new episode, it is fair to wonder whether or not some of these said duties are now over. Barbara can now rejoin the team at Nonnatus House, and we’ve got a feeling that some of her skills are going to be in demand for many different reasons … especially with Trixie gone for the time being.
If you recall, at the end of this past episode Trixie was sent away in order to properly deal with some of her personal issues, including addiction. That was not only jeopardizing her career, but also the reputation of Nonnatus House in general since it could present a negative image. If the drinking habit continued long enough, it in turn could end up jeopardizing her entire life.
It’s odd to think that George and Ritchie are almost serving as two sides of a Call the Midwife coin this season. When one of them is there, the other one unfortunately isn’t. The last time they appeared together was in the Christmas Special.

Will Helen George return to Call the Midwife?
It’s understandable to raise the question at present given the departure and the realization that she will be gone for a while. Yet, there is still reason to hope that George will be back as Trixie for at least one appearance by the end of the season. We compare this somewhat to the Emerald Fennell departure during last season of the show, with the main difference here being that we don’t think that Ritchie is going to eventually be gone for good quite like Fennell now is.
