Is Mozart in the Jungle renewed for season 5? Amazon’s timeline and more
It’s more of the latter that could cause there to be some sort of wait between now and when a potential season 5 premieres. This is a series that tends to travel around more than the standard within its genre, so don’t be altogether shocked that a season 5 may not premiere until the spring of 2019 at the earliest … provided of course that it even gets that renewal. CarterMatt is sad to say that nothing is confirmed as of yet by Amazon.
So why have confidence in the renewal happening to begin with? Much of that stems from this being one of those shows that really put Amazon on the map when it comes to awards consideration. It’s a trailblazer for them in that sense and there’s going to be some merit in them keeping the series around until it has a fitting end. Even though we know that there are some behind-the-scenes changes when it comes to Amazon’s original programming slate, we don’t believe that they are extremely beholden to the idea that a new programming head means that they automatically need to clean house on some of the ideas developed before they came on board.
We anticipate that another season of Mozart in the Jungle will be announced over the next month or two. The only way in which we don’t see that coming is if the viewership for whatever reason bottoms out. The one thing that is a little disconcerting is releasing the new season during the Olympics; we know that it’s fairly evergreen, but choosing to release the show now hurts the promotional window, at least to a certain degree. It may have been better off waiting a couple of weeks when the news cycle wasn’t so completely dominated by this.
