Is Crazy Ex-Girlfriend renewed for season 4 at The CW? Should it be?
CarterMatt may as well get the bad news out of the way now when it comes to the Rachel Bloom series — the ratings are not good. Yet, they haven’t been good from the very beginning. This brings us over to what is actually some good news: The numbers are actually up for season 3 versus season 2, and by a pretty decent margin. In the key 18-49 demographic, season 3 improved by almost 10%; meanwhile, in total viewers there was an increase of almost 14%. These increases could be even larger when you start to consider DVR ratings and the like. (There are also other factors, including streaming, that are hard to account for on this end.)
The logic for a Crazy Ex-Girlfriend season 4 is actually pretty simple when you start to look at some of that — if The CW was going to renew the series before for additional episodes, why wouldn’t they do it again now that the ratings are better? There are two other causes for optimism, as well.
1. The expanded programming lineup for The CW starting this fall – For the first time in over a decade, the network is gearing up to program again on Sundays. What that means is that there are two more hours of programming than they had before.
2. There’s a tour coming up – We know that many select cast and crew members are going to be touring around a number of cities in order to perform some music from the show live. We don’t think that happens with a series that is on the way out.
Do we see Crazy Ex-Girlfriend as a series lasting for ten seasons? No, but that’s probably not something that anyone expects. The real merit for the series is that it gives The CW a critical darling that they can promote around awards season. At some point, they will decide that they’ve had enough. Hopefully, we’ve got at least a couple more years to go until this crazy story starts to come to a close.
What do you think: Should we get a chance to see a Crazy Ex-Girlfriend season 4 at some point in the future? Be sure to share right now in the comments!
