Outlander season 4: Caitriona Balfe on working with Maria Doyle Kennedy

Caitriona Balfe

Caitriona Balfe is coming off of a big win at the Irish Film and Television Academy Awards a.k.a. the IFTA Awards on Thursday, and thanks to her appearance back in Ireland CarterMatt has a new video to share today pertaining to Outlander season 4.

Below, you can see Balfe speaking to popular Irish television network RTE while outside the ceremony; within this short interview, she talks about both the excitement and the comfort that comes with doing the fourth season of the series. Now that the entire cast and crew is so far into the series’ run, one of the great things that goes along with that is a wonderful sense of comfort. Everyone knows each other really well on set now and that has to make work much more efficient. The series is certainly changing things up this season by using Scotland as a backdrop for North Carolina, but we do certainly think that this is the same show in spirit to how it’s always been. We just have new adventures and new people joining the family.

Balfe also opens up to RTE about working alongside Maria Doyle Kennedy, another Irish performer, on the show this season: “She’s brilliant. She’s absolutely fantastic and she’s been such a fantastic addition to the show.”

Kennedy is playing Jamie’s Aunt Jocasta, a prominent character from the Diana Gabaldon book Drums of Autumn and someone who will more than likely be a pretty integral part in whatever is going to be coming up on the series for Jamie and Claire.

Remember that Balfe will also be making an appearance later today on the Irish version of The Late Late Show, so you should get an opportunity to see a little more from her in what should be a really fun, entertaining context. Caitriona has had a break in the action the past couple of days, though we’re sure she will be returning back to Scotland before long in order to continue work on the latest batch of episodes. As of right now, it seems as though work is being done on episodes 7 and 8, which brings season 4 past its halfway point at least in terms of the episode count.
