Scandal season 7: Should Rowan make it through alive?

Scandal season 7 episode 12 new

Is Scandal season 7 episode 12 new tonight on ABC? Well, that would certainly be nice — unfortunately, it’s not happening. The network is going off the air, at least in terms of some of its normal programming, for the remainder of the Winter Olympics. The Kerry Washington series will return on Thursday, March 1.

Before we dive too deep at the moment, though, there is one other question that we do have to wonder — and it’s a big one tied to Rowan Pope. Is there any way in which he can make it through the show alive? Should he? While we have been surprised by a number of different things over the course of this series, perhaps the biggest is that somehow, Rowan remains the series’ biggest cockroach in that he cannot be killed. There’s been just about every reason in the world for someone to send Rowan out to pasture and yet, it hasn’t quite happened. He’s still breathing, and is therefore still capable of causing problems for Olivia Pope and everyone else in her life.

Moving forward, there is probably a case to be made both in terms of keeping Rowan alive and also in putting her out to pasture.

1. The case for keeping Rowan – It is really as simple as this: Keeping Rowan alive is a great way in order to ensure that Olivia faces a constant reminder of who she could become. Most of the seventh season has created that sort of mirror to the earlier days of Rowan. While Olivia has been presented with opportunities to go down a different path and not become the same evil man as her father, to date she has not opted to do that.

If the show eliminates Olivia’s father, some of those comparisons start to slowly and surely wither away.

2. The case for killing Rowan – The justification for this is not altogether difficult to figure out in that he’s someone most viewers vehemently dislike for some of what he’s done; with that, seeing him die may feel like justice. Personally, though, we feel like it’s far more effective to allow the character to survive just because that allows for a different way for him to suffer. Death almost seems too easy an outcome.
