The Blacklist season 5 episode 14 photo: See Liz Keen in therapy
The photo That CarterMatt has for you above is your first look at some of Liz’s interactions with her therapist Sharon, played by none other than Martha Plimpton (who we have been a huge fan of ever since we first saw her in the film The Goonies). It’s Sharon’s responsibility to ensure that Liz is ready to get back out into the field as an agent. Obviously Liz is going to be more than confident that she is capable of that, but Sharon is going to come into this session with a wide array of concerns on the subject. She’ll wonder whether or not Liz has made enough movement in a positive direction after Tom’s death. The short answer here is no — Liz has regressed, if anything. She’s murdering people and, as seen in the 100th episode, dissolving their bodies in a gruesome fashion like the Stewmaker. She’s out for blood and hungry for revenge, and that isn’t the sort of person many would want as an FBI agent.
Unfortunately, Liz may not have a great degree of skill when it cones to convincing Sharon. She is a woman who excels in reading her patients and understanding who they are — this is important given that it bucks the trend of many non-essential characters in law enforcement being made out to be dummies.
Think of things in this sense: If Liz is unfit to be out in the field and her therapist knows it, why in the world would she want to have that sort of blood on her hands? She wouldn’t. Effectively, Liz is going to have to be super-convincing here if she wants there to be a chance to get back to her old job. (There is a bit of confusion when it comes to Sharon’s last name — it was originally credited as “Friedman” but attached to some promotional photos, the character is listed as “Dr. Sharon Fulton.”)
