Katharine McPhee’s Broadway gig won’t impact possible Scorpion season 5
Recently, it was announced that McPhee is going to make her debut in the musical Waitress starting on April 10. She’ll play the main character Jenna and follow up Sara Bareilles, who also composed the musical, in the role. This gig for McPhee will, according to Playbill, run through June 17.
As for the possible implications here when it comes to Scorpion season 5, TVLine notes that production would not begin until after the end of McPhee’s Broadway run. Therefore, it’s more than feasible that she could do both Waitress and come back to play Paige a little bit later in the summer. She’s basically doing the same thing that many other actors do during their filming hiatus. This is just a little more of a high-profile gig than what we’re used to seeing from some other network TV actors during the off-season; many of them often just use the spring/early summer to recharge before going back to work in July or August.
We should make it clear that technically, Scorpion has not been renewed just yet for a fifth season — but we feel like it’s likely as the show hovers around syndication territory. There may be a hope that CBS can boost the series’ numbers a little bit once more viewers end up discovering it. As it is, Scorpion isn’t necessarily getting great ratings; yet, it also still has a reasonably good shot of coming back. We wouldn’t be altogether shocked to see it moved to Sundays in the fall alongside NCIS: Los Angeles and Elementary.

So long as Scorpion continues, we obviously want to see McPhee stick around — without Paige, the series would lose one of its most-important characters. She’s the most relatable person on Team Scorpion and she’s the connective tissue between Ralph and the rest of the team.
