The Walking Dead season 8 midseason promos skewer Olympics

The Walking Dead season 8 midseason promos

Just in case you wanted to see The Walking Dead season 8 try to have some fun at the expense of the Olympics, you’re in the right place! AMC has released three new previews for the upcoming season of the zombie drama (which you can check out conveniently in the same video below), and they do go heavy on the comedy.

The premise of all three is pretty simple: You know almost nothing about the Olympics, but you know everything about The Walking Dead. That’s why you should be far more excited about the return of the zombie drama on February 25 than anything that you are going to be seeing during the Games in South Korea. The first two promos are actually some of the best that CarterMatt has seen, mostly in the sense of how you’ve got really sharp editing and some funny comparisons between the Olympics and The Walking Dead.

If there are two weaknesses to the videos, this is what we think was lacking:

1. The third promo is pretty lame – The first two produce some genuine laugh-out-loud moments, and the third feels like it’s completely unnecessary. AMC really should have just quit while they were ahead rather than making another one.

2. Still no Carl – While we know that these previews are meant to be funny and introducing Chandler Riggs in here would be asking to letting the air out of everyone’s tires, that still does not negate the notion that AMC is really dropping the ball when it comes to how they are promoting the show. Yes, technically advertising that Carl is going to die is a spoiler, but it was one given away months ago. It feels like this is the best opportunity that the series has to actually get viewers to watch the show (especially ones that maybe haven’t watched in a little while); we don’t quite know why AMC isn’t taking advantage of that for the one episode the series is going to have the biggest audience. Let’s be honest — they’re probably going to lose viewers after Carl’s gone. That feels like a given considering how many fans feel about this move.
