Gotham season 4 episode 12 photo: A look at Peyton List’s Poison Ivy
The first thing that feels almost obvious to point out at this point is that there are significant challenges that come with bringing in another version of Ivy into Gotham — we’ve already had two, for starters, and it doesn’t really feel like you necessarily had to recast the Maggie Geha iteration. Yet, we also understand why you would want to bring on board List given that she can play sly and devious extremely well; it also represents another evolution of the character, something that the writers have really emphasized for the better part of the past two years.
One thing that will probably take a little bit of time to get used to is the fact that this Ivy’s hair isn’t bright red — obviously one of the character’s calling cards. Given that List has dark hair, there probably wasn’t too much that the show could do there without giving her a silly wig. If a different hair color is the worst thing about this character, we’re doing a pretty good job.
This Ivy is a little more fully-formed in the sense that she understands her powers and capabilities, and with that is going to set out to put a plan of her own into motion over the next several episodes. She’s spent a good part of her life not having any control and she wants it — potentially by using plans, which she trusts far more than she ever did humans. Ivy is smart, sly, and capable of pulling the rug out from under some of the smartest and most sensible characters in Gotham.

While we’re sure that Ivy will terrorize Bruce Wayne and Jim Gordon at various times, we are definitely hoping to get some opportunities to see the show include her in the Sirens somehow, even if it’s for a brief period of time.
