Call the Midwife season 7 episode 4 review: Trixie’s decision
As the episode progressed, Mumtaz did what she could in order to put aside some of her own hurt and be there for this new mom as she welcomed a baby boy. Following that, she also has to figure out how to care for the baby in her own right, however difficult it may be.
Aside from the cases this week, though, we imagine that what will have most people talking is the story of Trixie. She has taken up drinking once more, and with that, she is absolutely playing a dangerous game. She tried her best to keep it from everyone else in Nonnatus but Nurse Crane, ever perceptive, was quickly aware of what was happening.
We will say this: Christopher is doing his part to be a pleasure. He came to visit Trixie outside of Nonnatus and helped her to understand some of what she is going through. He did everything that he could in order to help her, but in the process she realized that she cannot keep seeing him after the end of her romantic relationship. It was ultimately far too painful.
In the end, Trixie made the decision that she needed to leave Nonnatus, which was a good thing given that mere minutes later Sister Julienne granted her six months of leave in order to deal with her problems. She needed to in order to be able to properly deal with her job. This was precisely what she needed — but, to be honest, it’s going to be hard to see the series without her. We do feel like she’ll return, so we’re not altogether worried about her future in that sense.
Monica Joan’s struggle
There were many things that proved emotional when it comes to the Sister Monica Joan story, as she started to come to terms with her cataracts. She eventually was able to do that and overcome her fear of the scalpel — it was a tremendous leap forward for her and while her comparing it to people venturing into outer space was a little bit extreme, ultimately that comparison is what worked for her. That’s really what matters the most.
CarterMatt Verdict
Call the Midwife season 7 episode 4 was a story all about revelations and understanding. This is an emotional show and in between Mumtaz’s struggle and Trixie’s decision, we had that across many different components of the hour.
