Call the Midwife season 7 episode 5 preview: Is Trixie leaving?

Call the Midwife season 7 episode 5

Call the Midwife season 7 episode 5 may ask plenty of questions, but one of the biggest ones seems simple: Is Helen George leaving? Is her character departing from Nonnatus House for good? We do think that there are reasons to ponder over this question, but we do also do feel like the character will be okay in the end. She may just need a chance and a chance to recover from much of what she’s been going through as of late — she’s been battling many of her demons and doing whatever she can to make it through to the other side okay.

We do also wonder if there is a break for George coming on this season, given that she gave birth to her own baby this past fall while production may have still been going on. Like with many other series out there, the producers came up with some rather-creative ways already to try and cover up her pregnancy.

Below, the Call the Midwife season 7 episode 5 synopsis offers up some more news as to what to expect:

Trixie (Helen George, pictured) leaves Nonnatus House to stay with her godmother in Portofino.

Lucille (Leonie Elliott) is on a mission to help Eunice Dobson (Tamsin Topolski), an expectant mother who is extremely distressed about her pregnancy. Lucille feels out of her depth with Eunice’s situation and asks Shelagh (Laura Main) for help. She is determined to break through to this fearful mother, but Eunice’s condition is more serious than first thought.

Meanwhile, Violet (Annabelle Apsion) and Fred’s (Cliff Parisi) latest project is to throw a picnic for the Parish and Reggie (Daniel Laurie) is home to help. There is concern when a rumour spreads that Ade Babayaro (Jordan Peters), a Nigerian seaman, is hiding somewhere in Poplar with smallpox.

Wanting to prevent an outbreak, Nurse Crane (Linda Bassett) and Dr Turner (Stephen McGann) are keen to find the sailor in time to help him. Tom (Jack Ashton) and Barbara (Charlotte Ritchie) return to Poplar, but find nobody is home to welcome them.

It certainly feels as though there’s going to be getting a lot of great content coming in this episode, including the return of Barbara and Tom! Having Barbara back especially means that you will have the same number of midwives on the series, and it feels almost like it was constructed in such a way in order to ensure that both Charlotte Ritchie and Helen George had breaks in their time on the show this season. We’re at about the midway point in the season, and there are still four more episodes to go. With that, there are chances to tell many more different stories.
