Outlander perspectives: Who is the best season 3 villain?

Outlander season 4

While we’ve singled out villains in the past in the form of our CarterMatt Awards, we want to hone in on the subject specifically within today’s edition of our Outlander perspectives. Who is the best of the group — or the worst of the group, depending on your vantage point?

For starters, what’s interesting about this particular subject is that there is no consistent villain from start to finish this season. It’s not like season 2, where the threat of Black Jack lingers even when he’s not around. There were different villains for different parts of the story and the thing we’re the most curious about here is learning which one is the most memorable to you after the fact. We’ve got a poll for you at the bottom of this article for you to share your thoughts; note that voting is open from now until Saturday, February 17 at 4:00 p.m. Eastern time.

Note that if you are on mobile and can’t view the poll / comments, click to view the non-AMP version of the page.

Black Jack Randall – It was only for one episode and only briefly in that, but we do think that the battle against Jamie Fraser was a worthy farewell to someone we consider to be one of the most notorious, nefarious people within series history.

Geneva Dunsany – It may have only been an episode, but she treated Jamie terribly and forced the two of them to have sex. She demeaned him; his life may not have been in jeopardy, but part of his soul was.

Captain Leonard – While he may have been acting for what he thought was the good of his country, he was still in opposition to Jamie and Claire at almost every part of the story the moment that he realized that Jamie was Alexander Malcolm. If he had it his way, Jamie’s story in the Caribbean would have ended rather abruptly.

Geillis Duncan – Probably the purest villain in terms of her intentions and actions in the final episodes of the season. The only bummer here is that we didn’t get a chance to see more screen-time with her as she squared off against Claire.

The storm in the finale – Okay, we’re kidding — sort of. It did almost kill everyone.
