Victoria season 2 episode 5 (PBS) video: The quest for privacy
The term “get away” in itself carries with it a couple of different meanings. For example, you could be talking about “get away” in the sense of the two being outside of the Palace and in Scotland. After everything that has transpired over the episodes leading up to this, we cannot exactly say that we’re shocked that Victoria and Albert decided that this would be the best possible time in which to make some sort of retreat. There is also one other meaning here to “get away” in that they may also be trying to get away from the watch of the public. We understand the importance of having people all around you if you are a Royal, and we also imagine that in some ways it may be a relief to do so. Yet, at the same exact time there are some occasions in which you want nothing more than to be able to breathe without countless people watching your every move. You cannot quite get that at the Palace unless you’re locked away in your own quarters. This is one of the big reasons for the trip, of course in addition to being in the specific geographic location.
The sneak preview below is both meaningful and funny. We definitely understand where Victoria is coming from when she makes the proclamation that she wants to get away from everyone with Albert for a moment — it actually does seem like many of the people with her are okay with this plan! She understands the importance of alone time and that’s valuable. However, soon after that you realize in this preview that not everyone may be as trusting of Victoria and Albert as they think.
