Madam Secretary season 4: What’s next for Stevie McCord?

Madam Secretary

Over the past two days, we have been focusing on CBS’S Madam Secretary‘s characters and what we’d like to see heading into the final half of season 4. Stevie has had an interesting storyline over the last 2 seasons. She took a break from college for awhile before eventually finishing her education at Georgetown and is now applying to Harvard Law School. She’s found her first love who she became engaged to, but then broke it off after she realized they were just too different. She works for the President’s Chief of Staff and for right now seems pretty content with her life.

So as we approach the second half of season 4, here’s what CarterMatt would like to see for her.

Her work with Russell – When Stevie first decided to apply to Harvard Law School, the President’s Chief of Staff, Russell Jackson, was mentioned to her because he attended. So Stevie set out to get a letter of recommendation from him and ended up getting an internship with him as well. This was a big moment for her because for the first time in awhile she had a plan. After she finished at Georgetown University, she had no idea what her life was going to be like or what she wanted to do exactly. In other words, it was a turning point. So for the rest of this season, we want to see more of Stevie at her job and the work she is doing. She is Elizabeth’s daughter so we find it hard to believe she isn’t butting into conversations or meetings. Especially if it is something she finds interesting or compelling.

In the brief moments we did see, we truly felt like they were helping to really advance her story and character. It showed how much she has grown since we met her in the pilot and out of all the McCord kids, her story has been the most interesting to see progress. So we hope she keeps doing great as Russell’s intern.

Her relationship with Dmitri – Now we know nothing has been set in stone on whether or not Dmitri will be back, but we’d sure welcome him if he does. However, going forward we’d like to see how Stevie will move on from this. The episode “Mitya” didn’t show much of a fallout, but maybe after some time has passed Stevie will begin to process what has occurred. After all, she truly only thought she was dating a guy named Alex, not ex-Russian military man who works for a secretive government agency. So will this affect her future relationships? Meaning will she have trust issues? Or will she rethink trying to have a relationship at this time? Any of these are possible and either one we’d like to see.

Stevie has a great capacity to love and we believe she had strong feelings for Dmitri and Jareth, but both let her down in a sense. Dmitri got sent away and Jareth couldn’t see eye to eye with her. So for the rest of season 4 it would be great to see how her recent relationship will have on her.
